How to revert Blogger Theme widgets to default?

If you are already using Blogger, you might already know that we can customize the Blogger theme by editing the HTML code, and also by addition of widgets from the LAYOUT section. Now, after various customizations, if you find that there are some inconsistencies and issues due to multiple customizations, then restoring the theme to default may help fix issues and improve performance.

Reasons to Revert Widget Themes to Default

  1. Consistency: Maintaining a uniform look across all widgets can enhance your blog’s overall aesthetic, making it more visually appealing.

  2. Performance Issues: Custom themes or styles might slow down your blog. Reverting to default can help improve loading times.

  3. Fixing Errors: If a widget isn’t functioning correctly due to custom styling or settings, reverting can resolve these issues.

  4. Ease of Use: Default settings are usually optimized for user-friendliness, making it easier for visitors to navigate your blog.

  5. Simplicity: A clean, simple design often leads to a better user experience, as it reduces visual clutter.

If you want to remove widgets in Blogger and restore Blogger theme, you can follow the steps below.

Option 1 : How to remove widgets from Blogger (Blogspot): 

  • Go to Blogger.com and log in to your account.
  • Select the blog for which you want to reset the widget theme.
  • On the left-hand menu, click on "Layout".
  • This will display the layout of your blog with all the widgets you currently have.
  • Find the widget you want to remove / reset to default.
  • Click on the "Edit" button for that widget.
  • Some widgets have a "Restore default" option within their settings. If that option is available, click it.
If 'Restore Default' option is not available, then it may be better to remove the widget and add the widget again with correct settings.
  • Click on the "Edit" button for that widget.
  • Delete the widget by clicking the "Remove" button.
  • Go to the "Add a Gadget" option in the same Layout section and re-add the widget.
  • Re-adding the widget will reset it to its default settings.
  • Once done, make sure to click "Save arrangement" at the bottom of the Layout page.

This will revert the widget to its default look and settings. 

Option 2 : How to revert Blogger Theme widgets to default? 

If your Blogger theme have become too messy and removal of individual widgets did not solve your issue, then you can also remove multiple widgets or all widgets and revert the widgets to theme's defaults.

For that, 

  • Go to Blogger.com and log in to your account.
  • Select the blog for which you want to reset the widget theme.
  • Click THEME from the left sidebar, click on the dropdown button near CUSTOMIZE, and click on EDIT HTML
  • The complete HTML code of the theme appears.
  • Click on the 'Revert widget themes to default' button (3rd from the right), a window appears with all the widgets included in the theme.
  • If you want to remove all the widgets and start afresh, click 'Select all Widgets' and then click on 'Revert selected widgets'.
  • If you wish to do it selectively, select only the widgets you want to revert.
  • After that click on the SAVE button (right most button).

If you find that the issue is due to some custom code inserted in the Blogger theme, then you should find the code and take necessary actions - review the code and see if you should remove or edit the code.

After that click on the SAVE button (right most button).

Post which you can add widgets required and additional code in the HTML page, wherever necessary.
