Google Chrome is one of the most used web browser. Google Chrome is usually always included on new Android phones as well. In addition, most Android manufacturer also includes their own stock web browsers on Android phones. On Android phone, usually the links clicked are opened in a web browser. If you prefer a particular browser, and it is currently not set as the default browser, then we'll see how to change the default web browser in Android Phone including Mi Redmi Phones.


Many users may prefer to use Google Chrome since many people are using Gmail and other Google services. It let's us sync search history and bookmarks. So ideally, it is better to use the same browser across multiple devices for seamless experience.

Settings default browser for the first time:
When you get a new Androi phone, and then you open some link from the  Android Phone, usually you will get a prompt to select browsers to open the link. There would also be "Remember my choice" option usually. If this is checked, which ever browser you selected will be set as the default browser to open links.

If you prefer a particular browser, choose the preferred browser right  from the first time you select the browser to open links by also checking "Remember my choice". Then each time you open a link, the preferred browser you selected will be used to open links.

Changing the default browser on Android Phone
If you have already selected a browser as the default browser and now you want to change it, then you can do so by following the steps below.
Here is the general steps to set Google Chrome as the default browser on Android Phone:

If you have already set a default browser, you should go to:
  • Settings > Applications > Manage applications
  • Find the browser which is currently the default browser
  • Tap on that browser and click on "Clear defaults" in the details page
  • Then to set another browser, open some link from some apps like messaging app.
  • When you get the popup to choose browser, choose the preferred browser and also check "Remember my choice" to open the link
  • From next time, the links will always be opened using the preferred browser selected.
  • To reverse, do the above steps again.

OR in some devices:
  • Open your device's Settings app. 
  • Scroll down and select Google.
  • Select Google Settings
  • Tap Apps.
  • Open your default apps
  • In the top-right, tap Settings
  • Under 'Default', tap Browser app.
  • Tap Advanced > Default apps > Browser app.
  • Tap Chrome Chrome.
 The above settings location may vary depending on your device.

How to change the default web browser in Mi Redmi Android Phone:

For example: To change default web browser on Mi Redmi Android Phones, from default browser to Google Chrome do the following:
  • Open settings and go to installed apps
  • Look for 'browser' or search for 'browser'
  • Tap 'browser' (the Mi browser)
  • Scroll down and tap on "Clear Defaults"
  • Then open a link available in some app such a "SMS"
  • When the popup is displayed, choose Google Chrome
  • Select "Remember my choice" - to set default browser as Google Chrome. 
  • Otherwise, to get the popup each time, do not check "Remember my choice"
