Excerpts are trimmed down version of posts which are displayed on blog feed which we normally see on front page of websites and blogs. We see the same on Blogger front page. At the end of excerpt we normally see “Read more”. "Read More" tags splits the entire content into two halves – the first appear as a snippet in a blog feed. On clicking “read more” the user is taken to the entire blog post page. “Read more” prevents a blog from showing entire blog post content in the front pages. When writing content on Windows Live Writer, we can manually insert “Read More” link by adding the HTML tag

This tag should be added in the HTML code and not in visual/Rich Text editing format.
But if you do not want to do this manually in the HTML code, then you can download this Windows Live Writer plug-in.
