How to install Clockworkmod Recovery and root Samsung Galaxy Android Phone (Grand)?

In this post, we shall see how to root Samsung Galaxy Grand mobile phone. Before we start the process, the list of files and software required are given below. Make sure you download all the files to your computer and also move some of the files required to SD card.


Files required:
  1. Download Odin and install it on your PC. –Download from here
  2. Download and install Samsung USB DriversDownload from here
  3. Download the CWM-touch_i9082_chotu.tar.zip – Download from here and unzip it.
  4. Download the SuperSu.zip file – Download from here.
      • Put it in the External SDCard of your phone
      1. Download the Fix-Recovery.zip – Download from here.
          • Put it in the External SDCard of your phone

          Preliminary Checks:
          • Odin downloaded and extracted on the PC
          • Samsung USB drivers are installed in your PC.
          • You have placed SuperSu.zip and Fix-Recovery.zip files in the External SD Card of your phone.
          INSTALLING CLOCKWORKMOD RECOVERY
          Steps to install clockworkmod recovery: 
          1. Switch off the phone
          2. Press VOLUME DOWN + MENU + POWER simultaneously and hold
              • You will get a prompt that installing custom ROM can cause critical problems with your phone. It’s true. There are risks and might brick your phone. If you want to proceed press VOLUME UP.
                • Now the phone boots into download mode: ODIN MODE
                1. Connect your Samsung Galaxy Grand to PC via USB
                2. Launch ODIN from the PC
                3. Wait till you see 1. ID:COM box in the top left corner turn to blue or yellow depending upon your ODIN version now.
                4. Uncheck Auto-Reboot
                5. Select the PDA tab and select the downloaded & extracted CWM-touch_i9082_chotu.tar.zip file here.
                6. Click START
                    • After a while ODIN will show “PASS” status. 
                     
                     
                      • Remove your phone from the PC and pull out the battery for a few seconds.
                        • Put it back
                        1. Now boot into RECOVERY MODE by pressing Volume Up + Home Button + Power Key.
                            • You should see CLOCKWORKMOD RECOVERY menu like the image below.
                            CONGRATULATIONS! You have just installed CLOCKWORKMOD RECOVERY on your phone.

                            Rooting Samsung Galaxy Grand
                            1. If you are already in RECOVERY MODE continue from step 2. Else boot into RECOVERY MODE by pressing Volume Up + Home Button + Power Key.
                                • You should see CLOCKWORKMOD RECOVERY menu like the image below.
                                1. CHECK: Make sure you have SuperSu.zip and Fix-Recovery.zip files in the External SD Card of your phone.
                                    • IF NOT: exit from the RECOVERY MODE and boot normally.
                                      • Place the SuperSu.zip and Fix-Recovery.zip files in the External SD Card of your phone using a USB Cable.
                                      • Shutdown and boot into RECOVERY MODE as in step 1
                                      1. Once in RECOVERY MODE, navigate to install from SD Card > Choose zip from external sd card
                                          • To browse: use VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN keys
                                          • To select, use POWER BUTTON
                                          1. Locate the ‘Fix-Recovery.Zip” and install
                                          2. Navigate to “Choose zip from external sd card” again, locate and install “SuperSu.zip”
                                          3. That’s all. Go back and reboot system now.
                                          You have rooted the phone!

                                          Recommended to have:
                                          ROM MANAGER: Download and install ROM Manager from Google Play (Download Link).

                                          With ROM Manager, you can:
                                          • Boot into recovery mode from ROM Manager directly to install apps in zip file
                                          • Backup your current stock ROM to SD card

                                          You can also backup your stock ROM from Clockworkmod Recovery. Boot into RECOVERY MODE > BACKUP > Find backup to external SD Card.
