How to install Windows OS on computer with FreeDOS?

In this post, we shall discuss how to install Windows OS on computer with Free DOS, FreeDOS is a command line OS, so it is not very interesting to use if you are used to GUI based Operating System, which most of us are.


To install Windows OS on the computer, you might have Windows Installation Media in:

• Windows OS bootable CD/DVD
• USB Media (Pendrive): (See here how to install Windows OS from a USB Pendrive)

Whether you have a Windows Setup on disk or USB, all you need to do is to choose the appropriate source (CD/DVD or USB) from the boot menu.

• Insert the Windows OS CD/DVD in the CD/DVD tray or if USB, plug in the USB Drive to a free USB port
• Restart or start your computer if not already started.
• When it restarts, press F8 or ESC (depending on your system) early to enter the boot menu option.
• Choose the appropriate source (USB / DVD) where your Windows Installation Media is
• Windows will start the installation from here.
• Follow instructions on screen to complete the installation of Windows.

After Windows is installed, you can further install other programs you may need such as Word Processing, Media Players, etc. for use.
