How to test Responsive Web Design in Google Chrome web browser (using extension)?

So you have created a Responsive Web Design website and you would like to test right from your browser? Yes, you can do that.

What is a responsive web design?
"Responsive web design (RWD) is an approach to web design aimed at crafting sites to provide an optimal viewing experience—easy reading and navigation with a minimum of resizing, panning, and scrolling—across a wide range of devices (from desktop computer monitors to mobile phones)."

How do one normally test a  Responsive Web Design?

Just open the website in a browser on mobile device such as mobile phone or tablets.

What if you would like to test right from your browser on your computer where you are developing without the need to find out from another device? Yes, you can.

Google Chrome extensions to test Responsive Web Design:
Responsive Web Design Tester
  • Go to Google Extensions
  • Search for  "Responsive Web Design Tester"
  • Add to Chrome
  • An Icon will appear on the toolbar
  • Open the website in a tab
  • Click on the icon and select a device
  • A pop-up window will appear showing how the website will appear as for that device

The functions are the same.

There are several other extensions available for Google Chrome browser. You can explore and install any of your liking.
