How to enable “Developer Options” and USB debugging on Android Jelly Beans and beyond?

Developer Options was visible in Settings in Android Ginger Bread but is no longer displayed or visible in the Settings from Jelly Beans onward. In this post, we shall see how to enable “Developer Options” and USB debugging on Android Jelly Beans and beyond.

There are a lot of things under the Developer options which are used for testing purposes. But for most people, the Developer Options is required for enabling "USB Debugging" feature.

If you do not see “Developer Options’ on your Android Phone, here are the steps to enable it.

How to enable developer options on your Android Jelly Beans  (4.2.2) device:

    • SETTINGS > MORE tab > ABOUT DEVICE
    • Scroll down till you see “BUILD VERSION” and tap on it 7 times to enable “DEVELOPER OPTIONS”.
    • Go back
    • You should see “Developer Options’ just above ‘About Device”


To Enable “USB Debugging”:

    • Tap on “Developer Options”
    • Scroll down to “Debugging’ and check “USB DEBUGGING”
    • You will be prompted. Click OK to confirm

The menu in the settings where you need to tap multiple times may vary from phone to phone. But is usually the BUILD Version.

On Mi / Xiaomi Phone, Developer Options can be enabled by tapping 7 times on the MIUI version

Step 1: Go to main Settings on your Xiaomi devices.
Step 2: In the Settings page, find About phone and tap on it.
Step 3: Locate MIUI Version and tap seven times.

You will get a message "You are now a developer" on your device screen.

To access Developer Options:
Go back to the main settings page, scroll till you find Additional Settings > tap on Developer Options

Enable USB Debugging on Xiaomi Mi Phones:
Step 1 : Go back to main Settings.
Step 2 : Run Additional Settings, and tap Developer options to enable it from there.
Step 3 : Scroll down to find USB Debugging option and enable it.

Now, you have successfully enabled USB Debugging on your Xiaomi Mi Phones.
