If you have bought a new Windows 8 or Windows 10 computer, you would normally not find "My Computer" or "This PC" icon on the desktop. In this post, we will see how to display "My computer" or "This PC" icon on the desktop on Windows 8 or Windows 10.

By following the same steps below, we can not only enable to display "This PC" or "My Computer" on the Windows 8 or Windows 10 desktop, but we can also choose to enable Recycle Bin, User's Folder and Control Panel also.

To display "This PC" or "My Computer" on Windows 8 / 10 desktop, do the following:

On Windows 8 / 8.1:
  • Right click on a blank area on the desktop
  • Click on Personalize
  • In the personalization window, click on "Choose desktop icons" on the left
  • Check the icons you want to show on the desktop - This PC, Recycle Bin, User's Folder, Network etc.
  • Click OK to save



On Windows 10:
  • Right click on a blank area on the desktop
  • Click on Personalize
  • In the personalization window, click on "Themes"
  • The click on "desktop icon settings"
  • Check the icons you want to show on the desktop - This PC, Recycle Bin, User's Folder, Network etc.
  • Click OK to save

The icons selected will be displayed on the desktop.

If the same icons are not in Windows Start menu, you can right click on each icon and select "Pin to Start".
